28 January 2022 @ 7:30 pm – 30 January 2022 @ 7:30 pm
Clutch Plays Theatre brings theatre back with their newest production ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’
The wait is finally over! Clutch Plays Theatre is presenting its second and newest performance, ‘Tiny Beautiful Things,’ the first English play for 2022, after almost two years. The stage play, which has been in the works for 10 months, will be performed at the Lionel Wendt from January 28th to January 30th, 2022.
Introducing the talented team, the play is directed by Mayaan Haputantri and Tashiyana Devarajan; starring Tracy Jayasinghe, Tahiri Perera, Saranie Wijesinghe, and Ruvin De Silva; sound design by Asel Karunasinghe; graphic design by Naveed Hashim; lights design by Hasanga Liyanagunawardena; writings by Chathma Punchihewa; stage managing by Aneeq Hashim; and social media managing by Pravin Jayasundere.
‘Tiny Beautiful Things’ is a play about striving for what you want when you’re stuck, mending when you’re hurt, and finding the confidence to ask the questions that have no answers. ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’, based on Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling book and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos, recounts the questions and answers that advice columnist “Sugar” published online from 2010 to 2012. In a society that characterizes such emotions as “overreactions,” Sugar essentially educated her “advice-seekers” that what they were feeling was entirely natural. Strayed utilized compassion and her personal experiences to help others seeking counsel for both major and minor challenges when she was requested to take over the unpaid, nameless role of “Sugar”.
‘Tiny Beautiful Things’ will take you on a journey through some of the most intense feelings you’ll ever feel. You’ll be sad enough to either stay silent or make an ugly cry at times during this encounter, furious enough to yell or look in amazement at others, and glad enough to just smile or sigh in relief at other times.
Tickets are now available at the Lionel Wendt Box office, priced at Rs. 1500, Rs. 2000, and Rs. 2500. Trust me, this is not an opportunity you’d want to miss out on, so go get them before it’s too late!
‘“There’s always something you can take away from a play like this even regardless of the topics just watching something like a play, people preform and pour their hearts into something and being honest in such a close proximity in real life rather than behind a screen; that personal connection is something that has been missed in the past 2 years. There’s been a lack of being able to witness and feel the energy in a room, because as good as a movie is, just being in a physical space with someone is something that cannot be replaced and this play really pushes the boundaries on a lot of those emotions and its a great way to get back into theatre so you can see the full spectrum of the things you’ve missed over the past few years.” -Mayaan Haputantri
