About House Cup

The Inter-School House Cup is more than just a competition—it’s a festival of theatre, celebrating a wide range of talents. It encourages students to explore different aspects of theatre, from acting and directing to stage management, composing, makeup, and lighting. The idea began in 2016, when Kevin, while directing Peter Pan – The Musical at St. Joseph’s College, realized that large-scale productions require expertise in many areas. Wanting to develop Sri Lanka’s theatre industry, he saw the need to train students at an early stage. This led to the creation of the House Cup—a platform for students to explore and develop skills in theatre. CT7, known for supporting young actors, launched the first CT7 Inter-School House Cup in 2017. It is open to winners of school Inter-House Drama Competitions. Other students are also encouraged to participate in backstage roles like lighting, sound, and costumes. What makes the House Cup unique is that it doesn’t just celebrate actors and actresses—it also honors backstage and technical teams with 16 awards. Judged by top theatre professionals, it offers students valuable experience and a chance to compete at a high level. As Sri Lanka’s first theatre competition of this scale, it helps grow the English theatre and supports Kevin’s vision: to nurture multi-talented artists and give them opportunities to shine.
